Abstract

Surrogacy is a contentious topic, especially in light of prominent celebrities' adoption of the practice. Although it may be used for commercial exploitation, it is a blessing for couples for whom a typical pregnancy is unattainable. In December 2018, the Indian government approved a surrogacy law that significantly altered the pre-existing regulations. For instance, it outlaws commercial surrogacy and limits the ability of foreigners to file for surrogacy in India. The organisations that arranged surrogacy for foreigners have suffered a serious setback as a result. This law was passed in large part due to the unfair treatment of the surrogacy women. Their living circumstances were substandard, and they frequently did not receive the funds that the intended parents had given to the agency. Commercial surrogacy is permitted in certain nations, including as certain US states, Poland, Russia, and numerous other nations. The use of assisted reproductive technologies can result in complications for certain surrogate mothers. These mostly include ectopic pregnancy, psychological stress, and ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome. Adopting children should be promoted for same-sex couples, single parents, and even infertile women. In 2021 a new legislation has been enacted to deal with the surrogacy in India.
